Dominica Claravall of St. Michael Parish, Kailua-Kona, was crowned the Hawaii Council of Filipino Catholic Clubs’ Queen of Charity 2013, Oct. 27, at Hualalai Academy in Kailua-Kona.

She earned the honor by raising the most funds in the club’s second annual charity queen contest. Two of the four Big Island FCC units participated in the fundraiser, St. Michael and St. Joseph Church, Hilo.

More than 165 people attended the coronation.

Christina Ranan of St. Joseph, who raised the second highest amount was named Princess of Faith.

Completing the court were Princess of Peace Luz Jumila of St. Michael; Princess of Hope Mercy Baugbog of St. Joseph; and Princess of Prudence Leonida Cumlat of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Papaikou.

Presenting the awards were the clubs’ spiritual directors: Father Sam Loterte of St. Joseph; Father Mike Scully of Immaculate Heart of Mary; and Father Lio Faletoi of St. Michael.

Father Anthony Rapozo of St. Michael was the keynote speaker and seminarian EJ Resinto, who is spending a year as a pastoral intern at St. Michael, was the co-emcee with parishioner Lovette Llantos.

The Hawaii Council of Filipino Catholic Clubs also honored Janet Galdones of Immaculate Heart of Mary with the Father Ernest Claes Memorial Award. Galdones will be a nominee for the Msgr. Osmundo Calip Award given by the Diocesan Council of Filipino Catholic Clubs.

The goal of the Hawaii Council, as for most of the other island councils, is to give a portion of the charity funds raised to vocations, scholarships to students attending Catholic schools and other ministries. The council looks forward to adopting future projects that support the church and community.
