Photo: Mop ministry

11/08/2013 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Corry Lopez, Mercedes Matthews, Aaron Morris, Paula Pastor, Celia Downes and ministry adviser Manette Kokubun cleaned St. Francis Church in Kalaupapa and St. Philomena Church in Kalawao and assisted at Sunday Mass at St. Philomena; the group also explored the peninsula and learned about the Hansen’s disease settlement and Saints Damien and Marianne from their sponsor, Sacred Hearts Father Pat Killilea, as well as several patients and residents. Above, Morris mopped in front of the altar in St. Francis Church on Nov. 2 — the group’s final step after dusting, wiping down the pews and sweeping the floors. (Photo courtesy of Celia K. Downes)
