‘Strength on Unity’ theme of St. Anthony High gala
“Strength in Unity” is the theme of this year’s St. Anthony Junior-Senior High School annual fundraising gala, 5-10 p.m., Nov. 15, at the King Kamehameha Golf Club House.
The master of ceremonies for the event will be circuit court judge and 1979 St. Anthony graduate Richard Bissen. The gala will feature a Champagne reception, a holiday dinner, a student jazz ensemble, music by “Nevah Too Late” and a special performance by award-winning singer-songwriter John Cruz.
Thousands of dollars worth of items will be available for bid during a silent and live auction. Door prizes will also be awarded. Parking is free.
A gala window-tier ticket is $80, a mid-room ticket is $100, and a premium ticket is $120 per person.
Table sponsorships are also available at $1,000 for a Silver Window-Tier Table for eight; a $1,500 Blue-Mid-Room Table for 12; and a Gold Premium Table for 12 at $1,750.

Crafts, food at St. Joseph Preschool Christmas fair
The St. Joseph Early Learning Center Christmas Craft Fair, 7 a.m.-2 p.m., Nov. 16, at 1294 Makawao Avenue in Makawao, Maui, promises crafters, bake goods, chow fun, chili and much more, including an arrival from a special North Pole visitor at noon. Anthony Sardine will provide the entertainment.

Newman Center retreat on spirituality of Pope Francis
Jesuit Father Andy Alexander and Maureen McCann Waldron will lead a retreat on the spirituality of Pope Francis at the Newman Center/Holy Spirit Parish at the University of Hawaii-Manoa, Nov. 18-20.
Using themes spoken by the pope, the presenters each night, 7-8:30 p.m., will open scriptural passages flowing from the themes and offer suggestions for personal prayer and reflection.
The retreat is open to all. A donation of $10 a night or $25 for all three nights will be requested to help defray expenses. Parking is available at St. Francis School campus.
Father Alexander and McCann Waldron are the directors of the Collaborative Ministry Office and Online Ministries at Creighton University, which provides spiritual formation opportunities that strengthen personal and communal growth. They have co-authored two books, “Praying Lent” and “Retreat in the Real World.

Serra Club dinner in appreciation for religious
The Serra Club of Honolulu will host its 21st annual appreciation dinner for consecrated religious brothers and sisters at 6 p.m., Nov. 19, in the Blessed Sacrament Parish Hall in Pauoa Valley.
Serra Club president Estrella Estillore said the gathering is a “small way of honoring the vowed religious who have given so much to our diocese and our church.”
