Manaolana | Lisa’s catechism corner: How do you pray the rosary?

10/11/2013 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

YOUCAT*: 1. In the name of the Father. 2. Apostles’ Creed. 3. Our Father. 4. Three Hail Marys. 5. Glory be to the Father. 6. Five decades each with one Our Father, 10 Hail Marys and a Glory be to the Father.

The month of October is the month of the Rosary. There are four sets of mysteries: Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious Mysteries. These represent the life of Jesus.

There are a number of resources to teach you to pray the rosary, including apps like Laudete or iRosary.

I think Pope John Paul II described the Rosary most beautifully: “The Rosary is my favorite prayer. A marvelous prayer! Marvelous in its simplicity and its depth … Against the background of the words Ave Maria, the principal events of the life of Jesus Christ pass before the eyes of the soul …

“At the same time our heart can embrace in the decades of the rosary all the events that make up the lives of individuals, families, nations, the church and all mankind: our personal concerns and those of our neighbor, especially those who are closest to us, who are dearest to us. Thus the simple prayer of the rosary marks the rhythm of human life.”

#YearofFaith Challenge: During this month of the Rosary, commit yourself to praying the rosary at least once per week.
