Photo: Memorial for a parish priest

09/13/2013 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

1bobmahermemorialCapuchin Franciscan Father Michel Dalton prays after Communion in St. Elizabeth Church, Aiea, at an Aug. 29 memorial Mass for Capuchin Father Robert Maher, pictured in the framed photo, a former Oahu parish priest who died on the mainland on Aug. 20 at age 66. Bishop Larry Silva celebrated the Mass with Capuchin Fathers Paulo Kosaka and Gordon Combs and several diocesan clergy. Father Maher served at St. Elizabeth from 1997 to 2007, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Waikane from 2008 to 2009 and was administrator of St. George Parish in Waimanalo from 2009 to 2012. Father Dalton, pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish, Ewa, and former pastor at St. Elizabeth, gave the homily at the memorial Mass. At the conclusion of the Mass, the Capuchins sang the traditional Franciscan hymn for a happy death dedicated  to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Father Maher’s funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 24 at Sacred Heart Church, Yonkers, N.Y. (Photo courtesy of St. Elizabeth Church)
