Memorial Mass scheduled for two Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet

05/24/2013 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Vicar general Father Gary Secor will celebrate a memorial Mass for two recently deceased Hawaii-based Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, at 10 a.m., June 8, at Holy Trinity Church in Kuliouou.

The Mass is in remembrance for Sisters Julia Marie Acain who died on April 20 and Marie Agnese Arsenault who died on March 21.

Maui-born Sister Julia Marie joined the Sisters of St. Joseph 60 years ago and enjoyed a long fruitful career as a teacher in California, on Oahu and Maui, and was a missionary on Lanai. She was 79 when she died in Makawao, Maui.

Sister Marie Agnese served in Hawaii for 45 years as a teacher, catechist and college campus minister. She died at Carondelet Village in St. Paul, Minn., a month shy of her 90th birthday and two days after the 70th anniversary of her vows.

Donations in the names of the two sisters may be sent to Carondelet Center, Sisters of St. Joseph, 5311 Apo Drive, Honolulu, HI 96821.
