Co-cathedral vocal arts festival to feature Verdi’s ‘Requiem’

The Hawaii Vocal Arts Ensemble will celebrate is tenth annual Hawaii Vocal Masterworks Festival and the birthday of composer Giuseppe Verdi with 100 voices and members of the Hawaii Symphony performing the Verdi’s magnificent “Requiem,” 7:30 p.m., May 31, in the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa.

The singers are from the Hawaii Vocal Arts Ensemble, Chaminade University Chorus and Festival Chorus. The soloists are soprano Chiho Villasenor, mezzo soprano Jennifer Lane, tenor Kip Wilborn and baritone Leslie ‘Buz’ Tennent.

Conducting is Timothy Carney, the associate professor of music at Chaminade University, and the music director of Hawai`i Vocal Arts Ensemble and of St. John Lutheran Church, Kailua.

Tickets are $10-$35 at 550-8457, at honoluluboxoffice.com, or at the door.
