Manaolana | Lisa’s catechism corner: ‘I believe in the Holy Spirit’

05/10/2013 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

YOUCAT*: To believe in the Holy Spirit means to worship him as God just like the Father and the Son. It means to believe that the Holy Spirit comes into our hearts so that we as children of God might know our Father in heaven. Moved by God’s Spirit, we can change the face of the earth. [CCC 683-686]

“I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth.” (John 16:12-13a)

Jesus did not die and leave us alone. He promised his disciples that he would send them “another Counselor” (John 14:16), and this he did. To believe in the Holy Spirit means to believe that Jesus sent his Spirit to be our guide, to assist in the discovery of our gifts and talents, to help us understand Jesus. The Spirit transforms our lives from within. I can see the bumper sticker: “No Spirit, no life,” with a dove next to it. The Holy Spirit it truly God’s grace to us. It’s what gives us life and purpose.

#YearofFaith Challenge: How has the Holy Spirit transformed your life so that you can be life to others?
