03/01/2013 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Chaminade University honored three extraordinary people whose good works have not gone unnoticed in a special service Feb. 11 in Mystical Rose Oratory. From left: Senior Dominique Bocanegra received the Founder’s Award, which honors a Chaminade student whose generosity and spirit of faith exhibits a continuous commitment to Marianist values. Marianist Brother Jerry Bommer, Chaminade’s rector emeritus, received the Chaminade Award, which honors a faculty member who promotes the dignity and rights of all people. Venus Ituralde, director of residential life, received the Marianist Award, which honors a staff member who lives the Marianist traits of openness, hospitality, graciousness and faith in a loving God. Standing in back are Chaminade president Marianist Brother Bernard Ploeger, left, and Chaminade rector Marianist Father George J. Cerniglia. (Photo courtesy of Chaminade University)
