Saint Louis School received $50,000 from the Matson Foundation during a campus awards assembly Jan. 11. Presenting the check to the school were Matson account executive Michael Yoshida and Matson chairman of the board Walter Dods Jr., both Saint Louis graduates.
School president Walter Kirimitsu said the money will go toward the first phase of the school’s capital campaign for the new Clarence T.C. Ching Athletic Center.
“Mahalo to Matson for getting us off to a good start,” he said in a news release.
Dods said that one of Matson Foundation’s objectives is to support Hawaii’s educational institutions.
“As an alumnus of St. Louis, this contribution is personally very gratifying,” he said. “I will always value the quality of the education I received at St. Louis, and the lasting impact my time there had on my life.”
The Matson Foundation is the charity arm of Matson Navigation.
Saint Louis School, founded in 1846, is an all-boys school with grades 6-12.
